For Event Planners: How to Use Instagram ALT Text Feature

Event planners, have you heard or seen the term “ALT Text”?

Worry not. We’ll delve into it now.

What is Alt Text?

Alt text is like a brief description of an image that appears when someone cannot view it.

This could be due to visual impairments, slow internet connections, or using screen readers.

Why exactly is Alt Text Important for Event Planners?

  • To Boost Accessibility: Millions of people globally rely on screen readers to navigate the web. Including alt text allows them to understand your visual content and participate in the event planning conversation.
  • For SEO Advantage: Search engines use alt text to understand your content. Optimized alt text can improve your discoverability, making it easier for potential clients searching for events like yours to find you.
  • Engagement Powerhouse: Descriptive alt text can pique curiosity and encourage users to tap and learn more about your event.

How do You Craft Captivating Alt Text as an Event Planner

  1. Be Clear and Concise: Aim for 125 characters or less to avoid truncation by screen readers.
  1. Focus on Key Details: Describe the main subject of the image and its relevance to your event.
  1. Use Keywords: Incorporate relevant keywords like “wedding planning,” “corporate event,” or “luxury destination” to improve SEO.
  1. Evoke Emotion: Go beyond basic descriptions. Use evocative language to create a sense of atmosphere or excitement.

Here are some examples to inspire you:

  1. Image: A beautifully decorated banquet hall.

Alt Text: “A stunning banquet hall with crystal chandeliers and elegant table settings, perfect for a dream wedding reception.”

  1. Image: A group of people laughing and cheering at a rooftop party.

Alt Text: “Energetic crowd enjoying a lively rooftop party with breathtaking city views.”

  1. Image: A close-up of a delicious dessert display.

Alt Text: “Mouthwatering assortment of miniature desserts, perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth at your next event.”

To access the alt text feature on Instagram, follow these steps:

1. Start by opening the Instagram app on your mobile device.

2. Navigate to the screen where you can create a new post by tapping the “+” icon at the bottom center of the screen.

3. Choose the photo or video you want to post from your device’s gallery.

4. Once you’ve selected your media, you’ll be taken to the editing screen. Here, you can apply filters, adjust the image, and add text or stickers.

5. Tap on the “Next” button at the top right corner of the screen to proceed to the caption and other post settings.

6. Below, you’ll see an option that says “Advanced Settings.” Tap on it to expand the menu.

7. In the Advanced Settings menu, you’ll find an option labeled “Write Alt Text.” Tap on this option to access the alt text field.

8. Enter your alt text description for the image or video in the provided text box. Keep it concise, descriptive, and relevant to the content of your post.

9. Once you’ve added your alt text, tap on the “Done” or “Save” button to apply the changes.

10. Complete the rest of your post (add a caption, location, tags, etc.) as usual, and then tap on the “Share” button to publish your post with alt text included.

And there you have it, savvy planners.
